Poor Boy 05:27
Poor Boy - Jonathan Byrd Poor boy, poor boy, where did you learn your song? From the back of a Black Hill in the land of the free, the faces of the conquerors for the conquered to see, a mountain murder ballad in four-part harmony. That’s where I learned my song. Poor boy, poor boy, where did you learn your song? From the ring of the hammer on the long iron rail, swung by the hungry and the young men in jail, singing for their souls and singing for their bail. That’s where I learned my song. Poor boy, poor boy, where did you learn your song? From the preacher a-preaching in a long monotone, sharpened by the seasons of sleeping alone, but the saint is a sinner like a statue is a stone. That’s where I learned my song. Poor boy, poor boy, where did you learn your song? From the mourners a-mourning in the streets of town. They cried as they laid their brother’s body down. The song they were singing made the sweetest sound. That’s where I learned my song.

Under the Belly of the Night Jonathan Byrd, Corin Raymond They didn't want to roll the dice on icy roads that night or sleep in dirty clothes through a frozen Minnesota night. They spent a month of rent to get on that B35, went off the air, and not a soul survived. Singing, "That'll be the day I die," the night before, how could he know those words of love would only hurt us more? The man on the radio predicted snow and said, "The only stars to fall over Clear Lake, Iowa, they fell under the belly of the night." Under the belly of the night, they're still on the air. You can find them there. How many folks tonight are keeping trouble on the run, laying the needle down on that Chicago preacher's son, having that party while the singer's singing from the grave? He's out there now, twistin' the night away. Down the courtyard, you could hear him on the radio, behind the walls of number seven, singing soft and low, a couple moaning when the gun popped in the night above. They heard the shot and kept making love under the belly of the night. Under the belly of the night, the famous singer fell at the Evening Star Motel. Jackie Wilson's heart is crying on Commercial Drive. As long as there's an FM dial, I know he's still alive. If I should die, I pray the radio my soul to keep, if I don't wake from nine years of sleep under the belly of the night. Under the belly of the night, I'll be on the air. You can find me there. Under the belly of the night, a love that's love, a-not fade away.

Tattoo Weather - Jonathan Byrd Winter was long, spring was slow. When we went riding, there was still a little snow. In the afternoon, she took off her leather. Mmm, it was tattoo weather. People say she's hard, but I disagree. She's got a soft side you can't always see. Days like these, it's easy to love her. Mmm, in this tattoo weather. Let's ride. One night in Winnipeg, it was 30 below. At the High and Lonesome Club, it was a sold-out show. She just kept dancing, and taking off layers. Mmm, it was tattoo weather. Now she's working on her bike, her black thumb in the book. The way she's leaning, I can't help but look. I follow it down like a lazy river. Mmm, I love tattoo weather. Let's ride.

Bike Week 03:28
Bike Week - Jonathan Byrd My daddy’s cool. He's kind of like a viking. We got a Fat Bob and a Gold Wing. It's fun to ride side with my mama, all the way from Buffalo to Florida. We're going to Bike Week. we're going to Bike Week, we're going to Bike Week in Daytona Beach! Daytona Beach is our home away from home, palm trees waving in the chrome. We leave the snow and ride into the sun there. Travel down main street, can you hear the thunder? We're going to Bike Week. we're going to Bike Week, we're going to Bike Week in Daytona Beach! They got Aces and Crockers and Indians there, monkey bars shining like a new souvenir. Some kids vacation in the summer. That's cool, man. Bike Week's in March. We get out of school, man. We're going to Bike Week. we're going to Bike Week, we're going to Bike Week in Daytona Beach!

I Wish I Was In Love - Jonathan Byrd, Corin Raymond They fight like dogs most of the time. I hear them through these walls of mine. They must be deaf, the way they shout things I would rather not know about. Maybe they’re drunk. Maybe they’re stoned. Maybe they can’t leave well enough alone. There ain’t much that I can do. I don’t care who did what to who. I just walk across and turn the TV up. I wish I was in love. They don’t know what they’ve got, or it’s been so long that they forgot what lonely is and what lonely does, just how lonesome lonesome was. It’s been so long since I got dressed for anyone but myself. A little Chinese food in a paper cup. I wish i was in love. Be good to each other, be kind tonight. Hold your baby, and hold them tight. Get down on your knees and apologize. It don’t matter who’s wrong or who’s right. Love is precious, precious like gold. All I’ve got is this remote control. I’ll be flipping through the channels to the same old stuff. I wish I was in love.
